1859–1860 Baseballs
Produced for vintage baseball teams of today, this lemon peel baseball duplicates the look and feel of the hand made baseballs from 1859 through 1860.
Dark leather was used for the cover because it was readily available and easier for the players to see when the ball was hit in the air on a clear day. In fact, famed baseball writer Henry Chadwick advocated using a dark red leather base ball as late as 1875 and stated so in the 1875 DeWitt's Base Ball Umpire's Guide.
This baseball is 9¾ inches in circumference and 5¾ ounces in weight, hand stitched and conforms to the specifications of the National Association of Base-Ball Players for 1859 and 1860.

1861–1867 Baseballs
The 1861 NABBP convention slightly reduced the specifications of the baseball and those dimensions remained unchanged until 1868. As the number of teams grew so did the number of manufacturers.
Produced for vintage baseball teams of today, our 1861–1867 model features a one-piece hand-stitched white leather cover (S616711) to allow for maximum visibility against the wooded back drop of many current vintage fields. This model is also available in a brown leather cover (S616721), more accurately representing the style of baseball used during the games early era. This baseball adheres to the dimensions specified by the 1861–1867 Beadle's Dime Base-Ball Player guides and is 9½ inches in circumference and 5½ ounces in weight.
In 2002, 19c Base Ball became the first company to sell game playable 19th century baseballs and featured this model.

1872–1900 Baseballs
The figure-eight stitched baseball cover was first developed by Ellis Drake in the 1840's. It was then mass manufactured in 1858 by H. Hardwood and Sons of Natick, MA, the first baseball factory in the United States and even used at times by the Cincinnati Red Stockings during their 1868 and 1869 tour. This style cover did not become popular until the early 1870's.
Produced for vintage baseball teams of today, this two-piece hand stitched cover baseball conforms to the specifications of the National Association of Professional Base-Ball Clubs (1871–1875), the National League of Professional Base Ball Clubs (1876–1891, 1900), the American Association of Base Ball Clubs (1882–1891), the Union Association (1884), the Players' National League of Base Ball Clubs (1890) and the National League and American Association of Base Ball Clubs (1892–1899). This baseball is 9¼ inches in circumference and 5 ounces in weight.
