Baseball history photo: Baseball card featuring Pud Galvin. On October 5, 1888, Galvin became baseball's first 300 game winner, beating the Washington Nationals (NL); 5-1, while pitching for the Pittsburg Alleghenys (NL). Galvin allowed only 4 hits in the game which took 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. He retired at the end of the 1892 season and achieved a 364-310 career record, appearing with six teams in four professional leagues over 18 seasons. His 646 complete games are second only to Cy Young's 749 career mark. Click photo to return to previous page.
